How to get to Queenstown

Queenstown can be reached by road or air. If you arrive in Australia, you have the option to swim across!

AIR: You can fly into the country at Queenstown, Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, the main international airports of New Zealand. If you land at Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch, you can transfer to a connecting flight to Queenstown. There are several international flights connecting Queenstown directly to Australian cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. Check the airlines (Qantas, Air New Zealand) or your travel agent for timetable and bookings.

ROAD: Landing in Christchurch and driving down to Queenstown is an attractive option if you want to soak in the beauty of the pristine countryside. The travel time is approximately 6 to 7 hours. Tips for overseas travellers

Visas

Important! Citizens of several countries need to get a Visitor's Permit / Visa to enter New Zealand. Certain nationals need to have their passport endorsed with a Visitor's Visa before departure. Currency

One New Zealand dollar is worth approximately 81 US cents. There are automatic teller machines in the airport and throughout most cities, should you wish to withdraw cash on your credit or debit cards.

Electrical Plugs

New Zealand uses power outlets that take electrical plugs with three flat pins, seen here.  The minimum voltage supplied is 230-240 volts and 50 hertz.
